RANDOM NUGGETS

HUGGY BEAR
Huggy Bear was an English riot grrrl band, formed in 1991 in Brighton.
On February 14 1993, Huggy Bear performed "Her Jazz" on the TV show, The Word. After they played their fun, chaotic set, the band stayed in the studio to watch a report on 2 American models who called themselves "the Barbi Twins". Huggy Bear and their fans became upset at this and started shouting at the show's noticeably uncomfortable presenter Terry Christian. They were violently ejected from the studio and a spokesperson for The Word later said that one of the band's friends had "bit the face of a member of our production team." The performance was given a Melody Maker cover, the event being compared to the Sex Pistols Bill Grundy incident.

BAILE FUNK

BONDE JAMES BONDE
These tracks have come courtesy of the http://www.fatplanet.com.au/blog/ i think they are pretty cool straight out of San Paulo.
bonde james bonde wisely stick to this blueprint, using a cheeky selection of source material in their output, from britney’s ‘toxic’, t-rex’s ‘children of the revolution’ (in ‘t-rock’) to the dirty combination of ‘headhunter’ (once again) with alter ego’s ‘rocker’ in the excellent ‘pancadao rocker’.

#15 ITALO GIVAWAY

CHARLIE
Again i don't know alot about this record (I know i keep saying this but that's the deal when you start delving into a musical genre like Italo) what i can tell you is it was produced by Maurice Cavalieri in 1983 and released on the Mr Disc Organization label oh and it's cool as F**k, the and beats are super phat considering the age of the track, if you like it leave a comment so i know i am hitting the spot with my disc selection.

#14 ITALO GIVAWAY

CAPRICORN
A huge underground hit both in Europe, but also over in Detroit where it became a bit of an early classic, perhaps due in part to the subtle funky sounding rifts. The instrumental mix is the one. Produced by Claudio Simonetti & Giancarlo Meo in 1982 on the Delirium label. A true italo classic.

CAPRICORN – I NEED LOVE (INSTRUMENTAL)

#13 ITALO GIVAWAY

LA BIONDA
Carmelo La Bionda and Michelangelo La Bionda were two of the most active artists in the Italian electronic music in the late 70s. This slice of querky italo from 1980 is a work of genius in my opinion but make your own mind up.........

LA BIONDA - I WANNA BE YOUR LOVER

LOOSE JOINTS

I love this guy's stuff. If you've read anything about Arthur Russell you know what a talented musician he was and what a wonderful life he lived. Living as a Buddhist in a commune during his teen years and then later working in New York combining contemporary and classical styles of music and developing a new experimental disco.

This track is by one of his many bands - Loose Joints. It's probably been posted loads of times on the blogs. I've been listening to it for a while but recently a good friend of mine, Jon, played it at Death at the Disco and it has rekindled my love for this classic.

I hope some of you haven't heard it before.

#12 ITALO GIVAWAY

ENJAW J

I heard this record on Horse Meat Disco's myspaz and it rocks. Can't find much about it on the interweb. Discogs got it down as a record by Peter Hauke others say it's Curt Cressexplorer which sounds wrong to me. Just check it, it's from 1982 and it sounds bukka.

DIGITAL EMOTION
I ran across digital emotion for the first time about 5 years ago...Irresistably catchy electro/disco, italodisco, whatever you want to call it... They're part of what turned me on to Italo disco. It's mindless, it's cheesy, but who cares- these weren't meant to be brilliant artistic pieces. These still serve their purpose, even today- fun, mindless dance music. It's hard to choose favourites, but if I had to- it's a toss-up between "Go Go Yellow Screen" "Time" and "Get Up Action."If you like 80's music, disco, electro/electroclash, retro... these are definatly worth a look.

DANCE REACTION
Don't know alot about this group apart from they were from holland, there record covers were oh so wrong (a bit like bucks fizz) but the music is really cool and if that not enough they even put a 5 minute train noise on the B side, say no more.

#7 ITALO GIVAWAY

RONI GRIFFITH

THIS Track is the KILLER. Timeless funky sticky trash-disco with a cool break riff & a chorus hook like hell. Ronnie is a very untalented singer, fails on every note, but struggles herself in very cute & stylish manner over the groovy mess. not to forget the impressive dirty synth line through the whole song a real winner for me.

RONI GRIFFITHS - DESIRE
